I find it is one of the great joys in life to sort things into systems and categories, and find alignments across different media and sources. None of the things listed here are specific kintypes, archetypes, or other concrete identities. They are simply me self-aligning with a given sorting system, and reflecting what suits me, or where I would fall if within that world. Format is Source (Alphabetical, details)/ System: Selection. Click each item for more detail on how I align with that particular label.
The lifebound faction is absolutely everything to me. The cards all incorporate the fusion of plants and nature into animals/monsters that resonate profoundly with my faun kintype. And there are also the cards like Runic Lycanthrope and Wolf Shaman that evoke my therianthropy and voidpunk werewolf aspects. While it's not as solid, there is something about runes that appeals to me strongly, so I've considered calling myself a runic lycanthrope. The light-knight theme of the Enlightened touches on some of my paladin traits, but not as strongly as all of Lifebound.
This is one I struggled with because I often don't fit the aggressive and assertive aspects of most fire-type characters and tropes. But the Sun Warriors style of firebending, which deals with warmth rather than anger or conquest, is much closer to how I am.
This is an alignment I'm not very sure of. I don't feel strongly pulled toward any particular elements of the Aleran furies. Woodcrafting is closest, for the appeal of flora and working with living plants to my faun nature. And I think I can have some claim to the inner resilience of iron, with my history of chronic pain and general sword-relationships visible elsewhere on this page. But it's not a very sure self-sorting.
I find it very hard to pick a furycrafting element in Codex Alera, because I fundamentally don't really feel like I'd be an Aleran in that world. The Marat appeal to me, with their kith-like fusion and bond with a partner species. But really, nothing beats the Canim. Giant wolf-people with an honor-bound culture, who understand the respect and social connection that comes with being an enemy? It hits a lot of my traits and desires.
When I took the quiz on Laurie J. Marks' website, I skewed so heavily air it was absurd. And I related most to thr Air Logic characters. Norina and the concept of Truthken is very close to a lot of my paladin felings, as well as my sense of principles and morality in general. I found the books frustrating because I found them very accurate, but quite harshly negative in their depiction of air logic.
What a surprise for a therian, right? The first time I ever played Inscryption, I challenged Leshy in Act 2 because I was still mad after struggling through Act 1. The second time, I chose the Beasts starter deck because, using in-universe logic, that was the deck I felt most aligned with and the Scrybe I would replace if given the choice. The deck's aesthetic of blood, beasts and wilderness definitely appeals to me. I wouldn't even want to necessarily replace Leshy. Being a subordinate (like the Bosses) or even a card would be fine. As a therian myself, I can resonate with Leshy's belief that it is noble/desirable to be a beast.
Again, I'm fundamentally a dog therian. If I had to be a living card in the game of Inscryption, my species would be some kind of canine. The bloodhound is the only domestic dog available in the game, and the guardian sigil does evoke some of the protectiveness of my archetypes. (The only downside, really, is that the droop bloodhound features look "wrong" compared to my expected theriotype appearance, with the various wolf cards being physically closer in shape).
I know the Eye is the protagonist's alignment, but that's not why it fits me. The Eye elements of study, observation and investigation are a close fit for my analytical brain. I love doing close readings of things, picking them apart, categorizing them. My history includes research work (which is Eye-aligned already), and research in vision and perception specifically. The fact that I have a page on my personal website (this one!) just for sorting systems is a very Robert Smirke type Eye alignment.
The grass typing as a whole feels like a paratype to my faun identity. I consider my faun kintype on the elfae spectrum, as my noemata indicate it is inherently connected to nature, particularly dawn and springtime. Any media where plant and animal features mix, such as many depictions of fae and nature spirits, things like grass for fur or biological plant parts, appeal to that part of me. As a result, basically the entire grass typing offers example after exmaple of these kinds of plantimal features.
I have trouble determining a signular signifier card within tarot. But my alignment with the Minor Arcana suits could not be more obvious. Swords, which are associated with the element of Air, represent intellect and mental power. This is where my strengths lie, compared to other spheres such as spirit or instict. Though my work is often in the realm of emotions, my approach to it is strongly analytical. There have been times I have felt frustrated with the seeming pervasive sadness and negativity of the suit of swords. But I grow more and more accepting of it, especially as I explore my paladin identiy. The nature of a sword is that it cuts. I have to accept that that isn't innacurate to flaws and things I have to be mindful of. I also feel I owe a shoutout to Cedar Wren McCloud's Numinous Tarot, which used bells for swords. It was the first time I really felt myself represented by this suit.
